NFL defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill has donated $5,000 to Ivy Preparatory Academies as a Partner In Education with the state’s first single-gender public charter school.
“We appreciate the generosity of Sammie Lee Hill, and look forward to his continued participation with Ivy Prep as our Partner In Education,” said Alisha T. Morgan, executive director of Ivy Preparatory Academies. “Mr. Hill is a role model for our scholars. He embodies the spirit of professionalism, responsibility, and perseverance that we expect from our scholars at Ivy Prep.”
Morgan plans to invite Hill to Ivy Preparatory Academies next school year to talk to scholars about his career as a professional athlete and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Justin Houston, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, visited Ivy Prep Gwinnett in 2015 to share some coaching advice about how to overcome the hard knocks of life and score with a successful career.
Hill, a free agent with the NFL, spent the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans where he started 30 games. The 6-foot-4, 328-pound star tackle played four years with the Detroit Lions after being drafted into the NFL during the fourth round in 2009. Hill is a graduate of Alabama’s Stillman College where he played football between 2005-2009.
